Hunting Methods
Stand hunting has proved to be the most successful way to kill a trophy buck in our 
area. Ladder stands, portable treestands and ground blinds are all used. Stand locations are on travel routes, scrapelines, natural funnels, clear cut and field edges. Transportation to and fron stands are from truck, ATV, and horseback.
HEATED BLINDS
November can be cold in our area. Heated blinds are made availalbe to our guests when temperatures drop. Cold weather clothing is a must. Contact us and we can recommend several manufacturers that make quality apparel to help make your hunt warm and comfortable.
PORTABLE TREESTANDS
Portable treestands, ladderstands, and ground blinds are all used.
Stands are located on travel routes, scrapelines, natural funnels and clear cut edges. Transportation to and from stands are from truck, ATV and horseback. This allows us access to areas seldom hunted where deer have time to grow old.
Hunters going in with horses have the opportunity to stillhunt to and from the stand locations inside the Duck Mountain Park. This has proved to be a very successful and unique way to hunt whitetail.
HORSEBACK HUNTING
We offer a traditional horseback hunting experience to all our guests. We access remote areas of the Duck Mountain where ATV's and vehicles are not allowed. Hunt from horseback into some of the most natural whitetail habitat you will ever see.
This has proved to be a very successful and unique way to hunt the northern whitetail.
Some of our oldest and biggest bucks have been taken in these areas. Most of our hunters spend 1 or 2 days of their 6 day hunt on horseback.
We realize some hunters are not comfortable with horses and so we have this hunting method as an option only.
PRIVATE LAND HUNTING
Shell Valley Outfitters has secured hunting rights on several areas of private land on the farmland ridge of the Duck Montains. These farms are scattered with alfalfa and grain fields and mostly hunted from ground blinds. Some long range shooting may be required so hunters are urged to practice out ot 300 yards. These farms are made available to all or guests at "no additional charge".
